Amazon Fire TV Stick
Far and away the most common screen our subscribers watch football on. Set aside a quiet afternoon for it rather than the twenty minutes before a fixture you actually care about.
Before you start
- A Fire TV Stick already joined to your home network
- The Xtream server, username and password held on your account page
- A USB Ethernet adapter if you own one, for whichever television carries the football
Allow the stick to install outside the Amazon store
Open Settings, pick My Fire TV, then Developer Options, and turn on Apps from Unknown Sources. Older sticks keep that menu hidden until you prove you meant it: in Settings choose My Fire TV, then About, land on the device name and click it seven times running.
Add the Downloader utility
Downloader comes straight from the Amazon appstore, so search for it there and install it. Our player is distributed outside that store, and Downloader is simply the tool that goes and collects it for you.
Bring down the Strong 8K Live player
Start Downloader, key in the numeric code printed on our Apps page and press Go. When the transfer ends choose Install, then accept the prompt to bin the leftover file. Storage on these sticks is tight and there is nothing to gain by keeping it.
Type in your Xtream line
Open the player, pick the Xtream Codes route, then copy across the server, username and password shown in your account. Case is significant. Remotes make typos easy, so read the username back one character at a time before you submit it.
Let the listings build, then play something live
First launch pulls the whole channel list and the programme guide, which runs two or three minutes and never repeats. Once it settles, open a sports group and start a live channel, so you have proof it works on a day when nothing rides on it.
Worth knowing before match day
- Sticks left running for weeks turn sluggish and begin dropping frames on material they handled easily when new. Thirty seconds unplugged at the wall is the cheapest repair in this entire guide.
- The little USB Ethernet adapter for a Fire Stick costs almost nothing and takes wireless interference out of the picture. On the set that carries the football it is the best money you will spend.
- An app that installs but will not launch has almost always run out of room. Delete one game or one app you never open and it will start.
