Samsung and LG Smart TV
Nothing to sideload here. Tizen and webOS both stock players in their own storefronts, though your television will be the slowest thing in the house at building a channel list.
Before you start
- A Samsung or LG set from 2017 onwards
- Either your Xtream credentials or your M3U link
- A little patience the first time it loads
Pick a player from the television store
Both storefronts stock IPTV players, more than one on each platform. Any of them will take the details we issue you, so install whichever looks least cluttered on screen and move on.
Register the device key if the player demands one
A few television players open on a screen showing a device key or MAC address and go no further until that value is registered on the developer site. Do it there and then, because otherwise the app sits waiting and looks broken.
Attach your subscription
Add a playlist, then either paste the M3U link or fill in the Xtream server, username and password. Where the player accepts both, take Xtream, because that is what populates the weekend fixture guide.
Sit through the first load
The processor inside a television is modest, and the opening channel list can take two or three minutes to appear. Resist restarting the app partway. Once it has cached, every later launch is quick.
Worth knowing before match day
- Players that crash on a huge list usually recover once you hide the groups you never open. That one change resolves most of the smart television complaints that reach us.
- Anything older than 2017 makes hard work of live sport. A cheap stick or Android box in a spare HDMI socket will comfortably beat the built-in apps.
- Kill any motion smoothing the set applies. It was designed for film, it makes quick sport look peculiar, and it adds delay on top.
